Summary
John is responsible for the management of the firm and is a specialist in commercial, agricultural and residential property transactions. In addition he also heads up the Private Client Department within the firm dealing with wills, probate and inheritance tax planning.
Background and Qualifications
John qualified as a Solicitor in 1982, having trained with Birketts solicitors in Ipswich, following graduation from Bristol Polytechnic in 1979 and completion of the Law Society finals course in 1980 from Guildford College of Law.
John worked in Cambridge at Few & Kester (now Kester Cunningham & John) from 1982 to 1985 before joining Archer & Archer in 1985 and becoming a partner in 1986
He is a member of the Solicitors Benevolent Association and the Law Society Property section.
Work Undertaken
His work includes the sale and purchase of development sites; legal development of commercial industrial estates and the preparation of options, pre-emption and joint venture agreements. John also deals with partnership formation and franchise agreements as well as business start-ups
Other
John enjoys walking, the arts and is also a keen cyclist who regularly competes in time trials with the local Ely and District Cycling Club. John is board member of Kings Forest Housing Association, Chairman of the Eric Drummond Mercer Trust, a charitable trust dealing with people with learning disabilities, a member of the Ely 41 Club (the ex-Round Tablers organisation) and a Director of Ely XT Limited who are a charitable organisation responsible for organising the annual firework display in Cherry Hill Park, Ely. John is also the former Registrar to the Dean and Chapter of Ely Cathedral and is a former Governor of Soham Village College from 1996 - 2000 and Chair 1998 - 2007.
