Karen Carpenter
Legal Executive - Head of Family Department
Karen is a Legal Executive and advocate who has been at Archer & Archer for 30 years. She is a member of the Law Society Family Panel since July 2000. In addition she is a member of Resolution and a Collaborative Lawyer.
Background and Qualifications
Karen left school with A levels and went on to gain all her legal qualifications initially by the Institute of Legal Executives, qualifing as a Fellow in September 1986. In June 1994, she achieved a further diploma paper through the Institute in matrimonial practice. In 1998, Karen trained as a Mediator, and in March 2005, trained and qualified as a Collaborative Lawyer and has continued to practice in this field. In July 2008 Karen achieved the Higher Advocacy Certificate in Family Law with the Institute of Legal Executives.
Work Undertaken
Karen is a fee earner primarily dealing with all areas of family law including both private and publicly funded clients. She deals with all issues in connection with the break up of a marriage or a civil partnership, and those with regard to children both in private and public law together with matters of finance.
Karen deals with care related issues acting for grandparents or parents and also advises with regards to the drawing up of separation agreements and pre-nuptial agreements. In addition she deals with Deeds of Change of Name. As a Collaborative Lawyer she also deals with Collaborative negotiations with regard to the breakdown of marriage and also issues arising from them.
Other
Karen sits as a member of the management committee of the Cambridge and Ely Contact Centre and in addition is a member of the local Domestic Violence Forum. Within the practice she is the appointed female First Aider and Fire Officer. She also undertakes other administrative responsibilities and tasks within the firm.
Karen's leisure interests include amateur dramatics, reading, walking, cycling, gardening together with areas of craft work. Karen also appreciates good food and wine in the company of good friends.
